What do I need to coach with SS Freestyle? 

NEW Coaches 

All NEW Freestyle SKI Coaches need to complete the following:  

o    Click here to sign-up for Freestyle BC course schedule.

o    Fundamentalz Pre-Course Free

o    Complete the following courses by logging into your NCCP Locker/go to "ELEARNING" once you are logged in: , Making Headway , SafeSport and Making Ethical Decisions.

NEW SNOWBOARD Coaches need the Comp-Intro Coach Course

RETURNING Coaches requirements 

Coaches 18 + years old MUST submit CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK to through Snowreg every year. A criminal record check is valid for 2 years.  If you have one less then years old go directly to SnowReg and purchase your Coaching licence.

o    IF you need a Criminal Record check go there are two recommended methods:

o    Method #1 Go to your RCMP detachment.  Apply for an Employer Criminal Record Check - this can take up to 3-6 weeks.  

o    Snowreg - will offer this service through "Sterling Back Check" when you purchase a Coach Membership.  This method will require you to go to Canada Poste to get an ID verification.

ANNUAL Coaches license – please update every year

o    Ski: Freestyle Canada

o    Snowboard: BC Snowboard

o    email your coach license to

The following online NCCP courses are Mandatory for all active coaches:

  • 'SAFE SPORT' online course (roughly 90 mins) - CLICK HERE
  • 'Making Head Way' Concussion e-learning (60-90 mins) - CLICK HERE
  • NCCP "Making Ethical Decisions" module (roughly 2-4 hours) - CLICK HERE

If you have these courses, you do NOT need to take them again.

    Hi Coaches,

    It's that time of year again! The end of our winter programs is fast approaching and we need to start thinking about our athlete's year-end report cards.

    To ensure everyone gets the time they need to complete all their report cards, I have arranged a 2 hour classroom session this coming Saturday and request that as many, if not all coaches attend!

    Date: February 29th.

    Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm

    Location: Kids Adventure Centre (Directly across from the Brown Bag lunch room.

    **Report Cards are critical so if you cannot make this session please let myself or your head coach know so we can ensure you get your cards completed on time!!**

    Hi Fundamentalz Coaches,

    The BIG day for 60 Fundamentalz skiers is this weekend!  As you know our Fundamentalz program starts Saturday January 4 and Sunday Jan 5.  The program Runs until March 7 (10 weeks).

    AM Coaches Saturday - I would like us to meet at the Coaches Shack (boots on with equipment).  Please arrive at 8:20am, in order to leave ourselves time to get prepared.   Click here to view the Fundamentalz coaching schedule. 

    Please be familiar with the fundamentals pocket book and be sure to bring it to all sessions. We use lesson plans followed in the book with your owns tweaks and twist to set us up for a successful season coaching and a successful season for the kids in the program.

    I will hand out coach coats and radios at the shack.  Click here to view groups.  You will receive a sign with your names on it.  The kids will come to you. If you have your cell phone pls bring it:)

    As coaches you will need to help with a few things at the start:

    • make sure all the kids in your groups get a jersey
    • Check to make sure a parents phone number is on the back of the pass
    • Do an equipment check before the parents leave
    • Chat to the kids and make sure they feel welcome
    • Help with name tags
    • Check on friend requests

    We will leave the meeting point by 9am in the mornings and 12:50 in the afternoon. Here are the meet times:

    • Saturday AM 8:45-11:45am
    • Saturday PM 12:45-3:30pm
    • Sunday AM 8:45-11:45am
    General Program Schedule - All programs

    For the first week we will split into groups at the top of the Gondola.  From there we will make groups and go down Sundance on the first run.  We will work together to make sure your groups are working.

    Hey Coaches!

    There are lots of opportunities coming up this season, to advance your coaching training. Here are some of the courses you may wish to take advantage of!..

    • Air 2 (Advanced trampoline skills) - Air 2 course in Kelowna November 22-24 at the Airhouse. Here is the registration link:

    • Air 3 (air bag) - hosted at Silver Star from December 11-12. This is for coaches who did not take the water ramp portion last summer. Please let Coach Svin or Wade know ASAP if you are interested.
    • Air 4 - January 13-15 at Silver Star with Pat Walsh. 
    • Park & Pipe Module - January 16-17 at Silver Star with Pat Walsh. *(Discounted if coaches sign up for both Air 4 + P&P Module.)

    Silver Star Freestyle Club is providing 2 options for this year's coaches orientation to make it as convenient as possible for everyone to attend!

    Option 1: (KELOWNA) Wednesday November 20th @ Airhouse. 6:45pm

    *(Coaches will be able to use the trampolines after orientation)*

    Option 2: (VERNON) Sunday November 24th @ Maven Lane. 3:00pm

    *(All coaches are welcome to come try the new dry-slope rail session at Wade's house from 1pm-2:30.  And there is a Burger and Beer fundraiser for our club, at the Longhorn Pub starting at 4:30pm (19+ only at the Pub))*

    The pre-season orientation is very important to ensuring you're up to speed on any policies, procedures as well as any new changes to our operations so we'd like to see everyone attend one of these sessions.

    Please advise Wade ( if you will attend orientation in Kelowna and advise Svin ( if you will attend the Vernon orientation).

    Freestyle Canada Coach Pathway Changes

    Ensuring Freestyle Canada has certified coaches who provide a safe sport experience for our members is key to the growth and success of our Freestyle Community

    Coaches are ambassadors of our sport. Investing in knowledge, practical learning experiences and opportunities to assess coach competencies will positively shape our sport and prepare us for future growth.

    A number of exciting new changes have been made to the Coach Pathway in order to ensure coaches can achieve certification with greater ease. The revised pathway has been created through consultation with external industry leaders and internal stakeholders. Significant effort has been made to ensure that the new requirements are considerate of the realities of our coaching community.

    Female Coach Course Certification Bursary 

    Freestyle BC is proud to introduce the Female Coach Certification Bursary for the 2019-2020 season. We will be offering a FUNdamentalz entry-level coaching course to eight female candidates (from anywhere in the province); course to be held in Vancouver, free of charge.

    A part of our commitment to our membership is to ensure we support and mentor highest quality coaches, judges and officials in the country.  Our professional development team is dedicated to provided high-quality training opportunities this season for everyone in the province.  Be sure to check for updates at or reach out to Sebastien Berthiaume <> to register, or request a clinic in your area.

    First Aid Course coming up in K Town.  Offered by Kim from Phoenix Fitness.

    DATE: Sunday October 27th 

    TIME: 11 AM-2PM

    COST: The course costs $70 but SSFC has agreed to pay half of the course fee! (we'll reimburse once the course facilitator sends out the certs and invoice!!)
