Thanks to everyone who has registered for fall and winter programs!  We are grateful for your patience as SS Freestyle navigates through the unforgiving process. The Club is currently at 90% capacity for winter ski programs and at the 30% capacity for winter snowboard.   We thank you for your support.

Comp teams and Dev Teams are the last programs to be posted for winter registration and will be done so in sync with invitations from those head coaches soon.

    Head Coach Team

As we build out the winter coaching team for the 2020/21 ski season SS Freestyle would like to welcome the Head Coach Team:

Comp Ski Team Head Coach - Hayden Person

Comp Snowboard Team Head Coach - Crispin Lipscomb

Development Ski Team Head Coach - "Coach Svin" aka Tom Swiecicki

Development Snowboard Team Head Coach - Daniel Curtis

We have an amazing lineup of coaches coming on board to work as a team in itself.    This Head Coach team shapes the programs for the entire club.  Thank you Coaches!  More announcements coming soon.

    Volunteer work parties

Please note we have a fall volunteer campaign going on.  Every Saturday mornings this fall at 9am - 12. Click here for details.  When you can help please use the registration system so we can send out any unscheduled changes, special instructions and keep track of the support we are getting.  Your support is invaluable and if chips in the work loads are easier:)

    Hello Freestyle Parents and Athletes,

It is a bit of an understatement to just say the last couple of weeks has been not only a disappointment from a club perspective but a challenging and unique time in world history.  The current pandemic and the social, economic symptoms that come with it are presenting some  unique situations for everyone.

The Silver Star Freestyle Club is no different.  The decisions made to cancel all remaining Freestyle Canada sanctioned events plus the one week closure of Silver Star Mountain Resort and now season ending closures of other resorts near by, are by all means very appropriate decisions.  The recommendations of Health Canada and Provincial Health Authorities to socially distance ourselves, practice good hygiene, and stay close to home are prudent and necessary.

Given these recommendations and the current status of mountain operations it is also necessary for the SSFC to cancel all remaining programming for the winter season effective immediately.  Your board has met frequently over the past week and had suspended final judgement on programming for the season until now, hoping that we could put something together that was safe, responsible, and appropriate.  At this point full-filling that mandate is not possible and cancelling the remainder of the season is the right thing to do.

Please note that your board will continue to meet and will communicate further regarding this decision including if refunds, credits, or make-up programming are necessary.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me at president@ssfreestyle.com

By no means should the end to this season be a reflection on the amazing accomplishments our club has achieved this year.  From record breaking membership numbers, resurgence of our Fundamentalz numbers, a massive G-Team, the clubs largest snowboard contingent ever, to an outstanding number of provincial and national competition invites.  This season was loaded with great things and has set the tone for a wicked off-season and Winter 2020-2021.

    Take care,

    Ryan Johnson, President

    SS Freestyle

    Competitions update!

Silver Star Freestyle had amazing event at neighboring Sun Peaks last weekend.  Both Timber Tour and Super Youth athletes put it all on the line and competed in Slopestyle, Moguls and Big Air.  Sun Peaks rose to the occasion and took on the Timber Tour late in the game.  SS Freestyle is so lucky to have an event like this so close to home.  Congratulation to all the athletes that attended from SS Freestyle.

This freestyle ski event was MASSIVE milestone for athletes like Natasha Vienneau, Nathan Glowa, Kael Hunter, Kael Keens, Tye Johannson, Maddex Macaulay and Leo Fogel who all competed in their first AWAY competition.  As one parent put it "set aside the results because they don't matter when your child is having so much fun, building confidence and being surrounded by other kids who support them. Its been an incredible first event and now my child is hooked! Not to mention the parents have been fun too. "

For all the results from Sun Peaks Freestyle BC Timber Tour click here.  Thirty skiers from Silver Star attended this event.

Jr. Nationals - Another outcome of the athletes from Silver Star that trained hard and poured there heart, soul and passion for the sport into this season is that several SS Freestyle athletes who attend the 12+ Timber Tour events at Panorama and Sun Peaks were selected to ski at the Freestyle Canada Jr. Nationals.  There is two Jr. National events each year in the following disciplines.

Red Deer Alberta March 12-15 - Moguls/Aerials/Dual Moguls

    Quebec City Stonham March 17 - 22 - Slopestyle/Big Air/Half Pipe

Here is the list of athletes that qualified for the events:

In order of gender and rank:

Red Deer - Makenna Christensen, Ella Garrod, Tate Garrod, Alex Sewell, Caleb Johnson

Attending - Ella Garrod and Alex Sewell

Quebec City Stonham - Ella Garrod, Makenna Christensen, Sharon Van Schalm, Kristin Hoivik, Mason Land, Tate Garrod

    Attending - Mason Land

Congratulations to those that were selected and good luck to all those attending!  This is a huge achievement!

Snowboard Jr. Nats - Big Shout out to Head Snowboard Coach Crispin Lipcomb and his team at Jr. Nationals in Calgary this weekend. Put it down guys!
