The Junior Development Team introduces young skiers ages 11+ to a more competitive environment.
The Jr.Dev Team is an 'Invite-Only' co-ed program for young athletes who have chosen freestyle and/or big mountain skiing as one of their top sports. Athletes in this competitive program commit 1.5 days p/weekend to their training and are motivated to compete in Super Youth and/or Regional freestyle/freeski events.
Athletes in this program generally meet many of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for Development Team athletes and show a positive attitude and a strong level of maturity and commitment to their training and the team.
You can find the KPI HERE.
The Jr. Development team training plan is similar to that of the DTeam. It is likely that Jr. athletes will train, at times, with members of the older Development Team. It is the aim of this program to provide athletes with a smooth transition into the DTeam when they are ready. In some cases, experienced Jr.Dev athletes who meet or exceed high-level KPI, skiing skills and consistently show a positive attitude may be eligible for an invite directly into the Competitive Team from Jr.Dev.
Preliminary Athlete Invitation
SS Freestyle is very excited to introduce our coaches roster for this program very soon!!
Q. What is the Jr. Dev athlete criteria?
A. The main criteria for aspiring athletes is to have a strong drive to perform and progress, a great work ethic and attitude and to be a fun and supportive member of our team. There are certain specific physical skills each skier should possess before being able to join the Jr. Dev team and athletes shall be selected on a case by case basis. At the Jr.Dev level athletes should be self-motivated and have a desire to compete.
In Jr. Dev, athletes must be prepared to train 1.5 to 2 days each weekend throughout the winter season as well as participate in some summer and fall 'dry-land' programs.
The Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that help us decide if an athlete is ready to join the Development programs can be found HERE.
Q. My child is more interested in Big Mountain, What do we do?
A. Following the LTAD framework, we recognise the benefits of skill development in all areas of skiing. At this level we train it all however, if an athlete begins to develop more of a passion towards Big Mountain our coaching team can help them establish a more individualised training plan that provides the training they need to reach their competitive goals.
The standard Freestyle and Big Mountain training plans look very similar so many of our more 'Big Mountain-focused' athletes will still train alongside Freestyle athletes for much of a season. If your child wants to eventually work towards more of a Big Mountain path in their skiing, please discuss this with our Big Mountain Sport Development Director, Coach Svin. firstname.lastname@example.org
