Silver Star Freestyle Club is building its coaching team for the 2022-23 ski season and beyond. The Club has a leadership opportunity open NOW! SS Freestyle seeks a Head Coach for its Jr. Dev Ski Team to work with an amazing group of young athletes with a passion to ski.
The successful candidate in this position will report and work along side the Program Director, other SS Freestyle Head Coaches and Performance coaches. The successful candidate must have the following attributes:
Preparedness - follow a comprehensive plan for the season for their group;
Coaching leadership- relentlessly collaborate with other performance ski and snowboard coaches in the club;
Experience – intuitive decision making and communication skills to help lead this segment of the club;
Preservation- foster an existing inclusive and passionate competitive culture;
Connection– this person will work closely and respectfully with his or her group of athletes and parents;
Drive – this person will work with a team of coaches and volunteers to maintain a fast pace and fun operations of SS Freestyle programs.
Above all this person has to have passion for the sport of freestyle skiing and support all the genre’s of skiing and snowboarding offered by the SS Freestyle Club. The contract will officially start September 1, 2022 with opportunities to work as early as May 15, 2022. The position itself has year around working opportunities. About SS Freestyle
SS Freestyle runs year-around programs at Silver Star Mountain, Treeline Park, Airhouse, and Apex Water Ramps. The club has a Mega LP Katal Air Bag, 7 trampolines and a dry slope rail training center for year-around training. The club is currently building a dry slope ramp to use the Mega LP Airbag at Silver Star Mountain in the summer months. These world leading facilities perfect for running year around programming for athletes ages 7-18. Current membership is over 280 athletes and 40 coaches for the 2021-2022 season.

This position reports to Wade Garrod the Silver Star Freestyle Club Program Director.
SS Freestyle Club Objectives
- To deliver high quality training programs and services to the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club athletes
- To grow the sport of freestyle skiing through increased enrollment in club programs
- To develop skiers for life in a safe and fun environment
- To prepare competitive ski athletes for BC and Canadian Freestyle ski competitions
- To develop and mentor future coaches
- To build and maintain world leading freestyle training and competition facilities
Required Qualifications
- Three or more seasons as as freestyle athlete at the club, provincial or national level
- Three or more seasons as freestyle coach at a club, provincial or national level
- Current criminal record check
- First Aid - Basic
- Drivers license - Class 5
- Must have Freestyle Canada Fundamentalz or FUNZ update
- Must have "Making Headway"
- Must have NCCP "Making Ethical Decisions" module
- "Keeping Girls in Sport" online
- Considerable coaching experience in multiple disciplines - Free skiing, Moguls, Air, Park and Half Pipe
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload to ensure effective on and off snow operations
- Ability to practice prompt communications via phone, txt, email or in person as require
- Acts as desirable role model for children and teenagers
Desirable Qualifications Skills and Attributes
- Can Freestyle Coach Modules - TSM 1 & 2, Air 1-4, P&P, Plan a Practice, Plan a Season
- Head Start Pro or Safestart
- Drivers license - Professional Classification
- IFSA Level 100 Coaches Certification
- Competition Development Moguls and/or Slopestyle OR plan to pursue
- Can Freestyle Doubles Tramp / On Snow
- Experience in managing conflict and finding resolutions
- Demonstrates the ability to be productive and have good work ethic
- Strives to lead a healthy and active life style
- Ability and desire to implement sport psychology and S&C development programming
- Has a high level understanding of the CS4L model (Long Term Athlete Development)
- Ability to complete athlete evaluations and provide productive feedback
- Ability to set goals, report on progress, and show success reaching benchmarks
